3 May 2019
We have had a positive first week back with fantastic focus and behaviour from all pupils. We know this will continue through this term.
Women’s World Cup
To celebrate the upcoming Women’s World Cup, next week will see the return of our in-house football competition in KS2. We have over 100 boys and girls signed up to play 10 minute, 6 a-side football matches on our school field. If your child has signed up, please can you remind them to bring in their trainers – Wednesdays for Y5/6 and Thursdays for Y3/4.
Our Y5/6 girls football team are getting themselves ready for their County Cup final against Greenfields Primary on Saturday 11 May at the Shrewsbury football ground. We would welcome as many supporters as possible to cheer the girls on. Parking is free with a £3 cost for entry and a program. Kick off is at 4:30pm however, the doors will open at 9:30am until 6:00pm for a range of other finals.
In Reception this week the arrival from the Living Eggs company has caused quite a stir. Ten healthy chicks (6 girls and 4 boys) have hatched and the children have been learning new language surrounding this process. They have really enjoyed observing, caring for the chicks and engaging in a range of chick themed activities.
We are missing a range of sports kit from competitions before Easter. If your child has represented the school before the Easter holidays could you please have a look for any purple and yellow tops, shorts, vests and socks. Thank you.
The Abernant deadline for consent forms and deposits was Thursday 2nd May. Thank you to those of you that have already returned these. May we politely request that any students who have not yet brought their paperwork and deposits into school please do so immediately.
Thank you to those parents who were able to attend this week’s meeting regarding the Edgmond Hall visit for our Year 2 children. All children should have now brought home the first information pack for this trip. All consent forms and deposits need to be returned to school by Friday 10th May. Thank you.
Our Year 5 children are continuing to enjoy their John Muir sessions. Can we remind parents that money is still outstanding for this and we would appreciate if outstanding payments can be sent in to the school office as soon as possible please.
Our Year 1 children will be visiting the Wythall Museum on Tuesday 7 May. Please remember that the coach is expected to return to school, traffic permitting, at 4.15pm.
Y5 Cake Sale
Thank you to all staff and parents for your kind donations of cakes for Year 5 cake sale on the last day of the Spring Term. I can now report that £120.30 has been raised. This money will be split between Plastic Oceans UK and The John Muir Award transport. The remaining cakes were donated to the residents of Lightmoor View Care Home.
In line with our constant aim to develop our parental engagement, we are looking to set up a parent forum in order to help us develop a home school agreement. As your views and opinions are very important to us, next Friday we will be sending home a flyer, which allows you to indicate if you wish to be part of this process. The forum sessions are planned for Thursday 13 June and Friday 14 June at 2:45pm. These will be informal discussions in order to receive parental views for our upcoming new agreement for September.
Following an extended period of ill health I am now able to confirm that Mrs Roberts will not be returning to work here. We wish her the very best for the future. Miss Wilkes will continue her teaching commitment in Year 5 for the remainder of the year and will also formally continue as the SENDCo for the school.
