2018-2019 Newsletters

5 April 2019

Dear Parents

We have had a very busy week in school this week with numerous parents involved in visiting and with many different sporting activities taking place.

Cross Country
Every one of the 31 children who went to Telford Town Park for the 2nd event of the cross country series took part with commitment, energy and bravery. It was great to see so many of the children improve on last week’s results with such excitement and they cannot wait for next week’s event. There are still a few places left for the final event at Chetwynd Deer Park on Wednesday 10 April – if your child is interested please get in touch with the office or Mr Cowdrill.

Y5/6 Football Friendly
Monday saw the visit of Coalbrookdale for a friendly match. This was a great opportunity to give a few more players the chance to wear the purple shirt. It was a fantastic match with John Fletcher working well together showing great team spirit. The match ended 2-2 which was a fair result for a fantastic game.

Y3/4 Boys Football Tournament
Boys from Y3 and Y4 recently took part in the Telford and Wrekin football tournament. They were in a tough group with two other teams and had to play them each twice. This was another great opportunity to give a couple of children their first competitive football experience. After the recent friendlies we’ve had the boys were more confident and played well together. They achieved a great result drawing with the finalist but a couple of losses meant they didn’t qualify. Well done to all involved.

Y5/6 Boys Football Semi-Final
Last Friday saw the visit of Shortwood Primary in the main Telford and Wrekin cup competition. As it was a semi-final, both teams were up for the match which resulted in a very competitive end to end game. It wasn’t the highest quality with tension in the air due to the importance of the win. The first half finished 0-0 with John Fletcher having the better chances hitting the post and bar with their keeper making some good saves. The second half continued as the first with John Fletcher getting the better chances on the counter attack. Unluckily, with 10 minutes left, a cross from Shortwood produced slight confusion giving Shortwood the lead. John Fletcher’s heads didn’t drop and they kept attacking the goal but it wasn’t to be. The final whistle blew and John Fletcher’s team dropped to the floor. This was an unbelievable journey, which started in September, but saw the boys out of the cup at the final hurdle. This was a fantastic achievement and each one of them should be very proud of themselves. Thank you to all who came and supported through the year.

Parental Involvement
Every time we hold a Parents Assembly, I am thrilled to see how many people turn up to see what their children have been up to in school. This week was no exception, with both Y4 and Reception children opening their doors to parents. Thank you for your continued support and I hope you are enjoying these assemblies as much as we are enjoying having you in school.
The Reception bookworm project is going from strength to strength with huge numbers attending on Thursday and reading with your children. Thank you again.
For those parents of children in Y4, there will be another chance for you to see the photographs from Condover in the South Hall between 5.15pm and 6.00pm on Monday 8 April.

Year 6 2019 2020 Residential Meeting
Year 5 parents are invited to an information meeting on Wednesday 10 April at 6.30pm regarding the Residential Visit to Abernant in the Autumn Term when the children will be in Year 6. Children are welcome to attend this meeting.

Whenever possible, please make every effort to book children’s medical appointments outside of school hours. However, if it is that you do have to collect your child during the school day or bring them in at a later start time, you will need to let the office know and also provide us with evidence of their appointment. A letter, text message or appointment card will suffice. Thank you.

If your child is absent from school it is vital that you call the school office prior to 9.30am each day of their absence with a reason and brief explanation. This is important for Safeguarding reasons as well as keeping our school attendance records accurate and up to date.

After School Clubs
Clubs will start again on Monday 29 April when we return from Easter break. All reply slips, with payment where relevant, need to be returned to school by Monday 8 April.

Our school day begins at 8.55am, if you arrive after this time your child be receive a late mark and will have already missed out on valuable learning time. Our school day ends at 3.15pm for Reception and Year 1 and then 3.20pm for Years 2 – 6 so we need all children to be collected promptly at this time. Whilst we understand that there may be occasional circumstances when you are running late, we ask that you contact school as soon as possible to advise us of your arrival time. Late collection impacts on our staff as they are unable to continue with their normal work as they have to supervise uncollected children. Thank you.

School Dinners
A reminder that as of Monday 1 April the cost of school dinners rose to £2.30 so please take this into consideration when sending payment into school. We also need meals to be paid for in advance. After just one week of the new financial year, the school is already owed over £100.

Thank you for all your continued donations, we already have three boxes of products that will make a massive difference to our local communities. The boxes will be collected at the end of next week so please keep your donations coming as they will be gratefully received.

If you have arranged for somebody different to collect your child from school please let the office know prior to 2.30pm so that the appropriate message can be sent to the class teacher regarding who to dismiss your child to.
