Year 5 Wrekin Maths Challenge
Last Friday afternoon, four Year 5 pupils joined 39 other schools in the DC Beagle Maths Challenge held at Wrekin College. This was the first time that the school had been involved in this event. Each pair had to participate in six challenges which was a true test of their gumption, ability to work collaboratively and mathematical skills. It was lovely that some of the parents joined us for the prize giving and afternoon tea. All of the pupils have to be commended for their attitude and motivation to ensure that they were fully on task until the end. We are all very proud of their efforts and look forward to taking up the challenge again next year.
Winning the Telford and Wrekin tournament earlier in the year meant we qualified to represent our district in the Shropshire Games on Tuesday – competing against all other districts in Telford and Shropshire. The team again performed amazingly well, finishing in third place overall (1 goal away from second place). This is a tremendous achievement and, in addition to this, the other teams voted our team as winners of the “Spirit of the Game” award for their respect, teamwork, determination, honesty, passion and self-belief. We are very proud of them and they epitomise what we expect from the children in all aspects of school life.
World Book Day
Thank you to everyone who supported our Book Fair which has not only given your children chance to buy books for themselves, but will also give us a good deal to spend on books for the classrooms using the commission gained.
Although I was not at school on Thursday, I am told the children looked fantastic in their costumes and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Thank you all for your efforts in helping them.
Y6 Parents’ Assembly
I was very pleased that so many parents and other family members were able to come into school on Friday to hear Y6 share their recent learning experiences. Again, they demonstrated the wide variety of activities that are taking place in school. Thank you to all who were able to attend and spend time in the classrooms afterwards.
There is just one more week to sign up for the Cross Country series and we have had a fantastic response. There are still a few places available for KS2. If your child is interested please speak to the office or Mr Cowdrill.
This week’s winners of the attendance awards are as follows:
A* Attendance: 5L with 99.58%
