Telford and Wrekin Primary Football League
On Monday, we started our challenge for the Telford and Wrekin League in a group stage at Telford Priory School. Our first match was against Grange Park where the boys were slightly over confident from their recent success and lost the game 1-0. It was the motivation they needed to ensure they put their all into the next three games. We played SS Peter & Paul next, which was a tough game to win 1-0. This was quickly followed by a game against Wrockwardine Wood which was a 4-1 win – a great performance. Our final game was against Captain Webb which we won 3-0. This proved to be a fantastic performance as we won the group and are into the round of 16. Well done to all involved.
U11 Boys ESFA Danone 7-Aside Trophy
Wednesday saw the 2nd round of the county fixtures, where the overall winners would represent Shropshire at the regional tournaments. The boys got off to a great start with a 0-0 draw against Oakmeadow Primary. The boys then pulled out one of their best performances in the purple shirt against Priorslee with a 1-0 victory. A win or draw against our final opponents Harlescott would have seen us through to the final. As we had to play the game straight after the Priorslee fixture, the boys were starting to tire but their determination kept them going. A last minute goal from Harlescott sadly meant we finished the group 2nd and were out of the competition. This is the furthest any John Fletcher team has gone in a football tournament including schools from Shropshire. A great well done to Oakmeadow who won overall, thank you to all of the parents who came and supported the team.
Telford and Wrekin Primary School U11 Trials
Last Friday saw 6 of our pupils go to trials with the best in Telford and Wrekin. It was a high standard, which the pupils representing John Fletcher didn’t shy from. They showcased their skills fantastically. We have already received the brilliant news that all 3 of our girls have made the last 22 for a final trial. We are still waiting to hear about our boys. An amazing effort by all.
We are sadly still missing a few pieces of kit, mainly socks. With the range of opportunities our children are having to represent our school, we want to ensure their experience isn’t differed by not having a full kit. Please have a good look at home and if any are found please return to school as soon as possible. Thank you.
The Harvest Festival will take place at St Michael’s Church at 10.00am on Wednesday 10 October with Year 1 and 2 children. We will be collecting non-perishable items to take to the church with us. Please send your donations into school by Tuesday 9 October. Any donations received will be donated to our local food bank. We look forward to seeing you there.
Residential Visit Year 4
Can we remind parents of children in Year 4 that the next payment for the Condover visit in March is due on 19 October.
Residential Visit Year 6
Parents of children in Year 6 the final payment for the Abernant visit in November is also due on 19 October. At present there is still an outstanding amount of £5,190. Please remember that there is a final meeting regarding this visit at 6pm on 24 October.
Madeley Academy Visit
Children in Year 6 will be walking to Madeley Academy on Monday (8 October) to have a look around the school on their Open Day. They will be leaving school at 9.30am and will return to school in time for lunch. We already hold Consent Forms in school for visits in the local area.
Parking on School Grounds
Please remember that the only parents that are allowed to park in the disabled spaces outside the kitchen area are those who hold a parking permit obtained from the school office. In the interests of Health & Safety please do not drive on the school drive when the children are leaving school. If necessary please arrive before the school day has ended and wait until the site has cleared before driving away. Thank you for helping us to keep our children safe.
National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP)
Last week children in Reception and Year 6 were sent home with a letter detailing the NCMP. As highlighted in the letter you do not need to do anything unless you wish to opt-out of this programme, in which case you will need to contact the School Nurse service no later than Friday 12th October 2018.
Congratulations to 1J and 6CW who maintained the lead this week in their respective key stages to retain the trophies. This week two-thirds of the Oscar owls swapped ‘perches’ to new winners. Our new certificate totals are 6 Gold, 44 Silver and 226 Bronze. Some of you may have noticed that the format of the certificates has changed. Mathletics are currently completing an update process which is also changing the appearance of the pupil and teacher screens. As part of this, our previous ability to access the Spellodrome certificates from the Mathletics website appears to have disappeared. We have contacted Mathletics to see whether this can be rectified. In the meantime, we apologise if any children who were expecting Spellodrome certificates on Monday were disappointed.
Times Tables Rockstars
6CN have the most improved average speed this week. Remember the only way to improve your average speed is to practise regularly and then revisit the Studio tab on the on-line platform to set your new speed. I know many children are practising hard to move up the rock ratings towards Rock Hero status- keep it up! If any parents want new copies of their children’s log-in details this year, please contact the class teacher or the office.
This week’s winners of the attendance awards are as follows:
A* Attendance: 1J with 100%
Pride in Punctuality: RY and 1J both with 0 lates.
